Dalmatian Costume DIY

For Halloween, Aiden wanted to be a fireman so I decided to dress Asher as a dalmatian. I couldn’t find a cute one anywhere that wasn’t close to $100 and I am just too cheap to pay that much for a Halloween costume. I decided to make him one using items around the house. I only had to purchase white tights (boy mom), black felt, and fabric glue.

Materials:

  • White onesie
  • White pants
  • White tights
  • Cotton balls
  • Black headband
  • Black felt
  • Fabric glue
  • Needle & white thread
IMG_2364 IMG_2365 IMG_2366 IMG_2368All I did was cut out various sized felt circles and glue them on. Then cut out two ear shapes and glued them to the headband.
IMG_2457IMG_2501Then I cut off one of the tight legs, stuffed it with cotton balls, and then hand sewed it to the back of the white pants.  IMG_2370IMG_2502Easy peasy. And turned out to be super cute on him! 🙂IMG_6651See both of their costumes in my Halloween post by clicking here 🙂

Candy Corn Cupcakes

Last week I posted a photo of the cupcakes I made for a Halloween party and got a lot of “how did you..” comments. So, here’s how:

First, my cupcake and icing recipes can be found here.

Start by splitting the batter. Dye half yellow and half orange:

IMG_6346Next, scoop a small amount of yellow into each cup:

IMG_6347Then orange:IMG_6348And they should come out looking like this:IMG_6351Then all you have to do is add icing, sprinkles, and a candy corn on top! cupcakeAnd, done! Super easy and a big hit with the kiddos! 🙂

Aiden is FOUR!

Here are some photos from Aiden’s birthday party last weekend. Lego-themed, obviously. If you’re on instagram, search the #aidenisFOUR hashtag to see more photos! Really though, you should be following me by now anyway. (Click here to do so.)

IMG_4108Goody bags! I cut circles from cardstock and used glue-dots to stick them on. 120 circles. ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY. That’s not including the banner circles.

IMG_4118Lego cookies! Ignore the Christmas tray. It didn’t keep the icing from melting once we arrived at the park. 😉 Still yummy!

IMG_4119Cake! Pain in the butt, and the icing also kept melting, but Aiden loved it. So that’s what mattered the most.IMG_4120Banner was cut up cardstock with glued-on circles. Similar to the goody bags. Not pictured: Tray of rainbow fruit-kabobs. Not sure how I forgot to take a photo, but I made them! I have witnesses! IMG_6454Lego-utensil holder! Pinterest is full of deception over how “easy” it is to make this shape out of legos. It took me a while. Not going to lie.
IMG_5015Cupcakes! There were also blue ones. Aiden has since eaten the leftovers.IMG_4121Just another shot of the setup! You can see the blue cupcakes and pre-melted cookies in this one.2On the outer deck, I hung a rainbow backdrop, and set up a “photobooth” for the kiddos. I’d say it was successful. (It was just different colored tablecloths pinned up and I found the prop set at Walmart for about $4.)3Doesn’t even need a caption!duckFinally, the party itself was at a boathouse by the lake here where we live. Ducks galore! I made little ziplock baggies filled with bread pieces so all the kids could feed the ducks at the end of the party. It was a hit!IMG_4202I guess if he HAD to turn four, at least it seemed to be a good one! 🙂

Now, bring on Autumn. Please and thank you!

Easter Bunny Cupcakes

For Aiden’s class Easter party, I made Peter Cottontail Cupcakes!

Here is my go-to recipe for vanilla cupcakes:

Ingredients:
2/3 c. butter, soft
1 3/4 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
3 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. milk

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°.
2. Line a muffin pan with cupcake liners.
3. In a large bowl mix butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until light and fluffy. Beat eggs in one at a time. Combine dry ingredients. Stir into batter alternately with milk.
4. Spoon into prepared muffin cups.
5. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes in preheated oven.

Icing:

2 oz (60g) butter, softened
3 cups confectioners sugar, sifted
2 tbsp milk
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
A dash of salt

Directions:

1. Whip butter in an electric mixer on medium speed for about 8 minutes or until it becomes creamy.

2. Pour in rest of the ingredients and continue blending them on low speed for a minute, then change the speed and keep mixing for another 6 minutes or until the mixture becomes light and fluffy. You can also add food coloring.

I also obviously used Peep Bunnies and jellybeans for the “eggs.”

Super easy and super cute!

DIY Melted Crayon Valentines

This year was my first attempt at making Valentines for Aiden’s class, something I’ve looked forward to since he started preschool!

Elves Like Chocolate Too.

Buddy got into Aiden’s advent calendar and chocolate stash this morning!

But he saved today’s piece just for Aiden!

And another passive aggressive “list” reminder for Mommy.

Aiden’s reaction the Buddy eating his chocolate, summed up in a photo:

Elf Diary 3: Elf on the Swing?

Apparently Buddy got into my craft stash last night and made himself a swing using my ribbon, and a toilet paper roll!

Buddy also wrote Aiden (who has been EXTRA…ummm…three-year-old-ish the last few days) a note reminding him to be NICE! And to make a Christmas list so that Santa’s helpers…aka the Grandparents… will leave Mommy alone! 😉

By the way, if you decide to try this one, you need some weight inside the TP roll to counter the weight of the elf’s head. These seashells worked perfectly, and Aiden couldn’t see them from his angle.

Elf Diaries: Day 2

I’m not sure if Aiden was more concerned about the fact that Buddy colored on his face, or the fact that Buddy was holding Mommy’s markers. (Aiden isn’t allowed to touch them after a certain hallway wall re-decorating fiasco.) Either way, day two was successful…so far!

Elfin’ Around.

Our Elf on the Shelf “arrived” this morning. He brought candy, a letter from Santa, and a book to introduce himself!IMG_8239

SOOOO blurry, but I couldn’t help but post the reaction.

Why yes, Santa-Mommy did make up this poem very quickly late last night. (It was a hit-Go me!)

And, our elf FINALLY has a name. Buddy is officially a (creepy-ish) member of the family.

I may not post every day in December, but I will post every day’s elf shenanigans. Not sure if Aiden is more excited, or if I am! 🙂
